At Brave Like Me, we believe that every child deserves moments of uninhibited joy that fills their hearts, fuels their confidence, and reminds them they are more than their medical condition.
Our Brave Friends Adventures are designed to do just that. These experiences bring together children living with complex medical conditions, along with their best friends or siblings, for unforgettable days of courage, laughter, and connection. So far, we have served over 200 families through our adventures and we are just getting started.
Past adventures have included rock climbing at climbing gym RockQuest, indoor skydiving at iFly, a day spent at Kings Island amusement park, and a visit to the Kanga Klimb ropes course at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.
At RockQuest, guests enjoyed rock climbing experiences at every level - from beginner-level scrambles to height-defying climbs. Guests of all ages and abilities were able to find something new to try. When asked about a key moment from the experience, one parent noted, “The sense of family and community. Hope, healing and living full!”
At the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, the Kanga Klimb ropes course encouraged guests to be brave as they traversed exciting obstacles, including narrow wooden bridges, rope ladders, and more, high among the trees. After conquering the course, the adventure continued with a once-in-a-lifetime encounter: meeting a penguin up close, thanks to the zoo’s incredible keepers!
These adventures are about more than excitement; they’re about belonging. As one parent reflected, “It’s so important for kids to have special adventures like this, especially when we can’t participate in other school activities or sports. It gets us out of our comfort zone and helps us meet other families.”
With every adventure, we see what’s possible when kids are given the chance to play freely and live without limits. These moments of joy ripple far beyond a single day and strengthen families, friendships, and the brave spirit that defines us all - and we can’t wait to see what the next Adventures will bring.
