More Than a Round of Golf

The day started with golf clubs, laughter, and a little friendly trash talk. It ended with 84 golfers walking off the course knowing they had helped create more moments of uninhibited joy for Brave Kids and their families.

Our 2nd Annual Brave Open was everything we hoped it would be and more. Even a brief summer rain couldn’t dampen the excitement. Within minutes, the clouds cleared, the sun returned, and it was back to golf as if nothing had happened. Friends reconnected, new relationships were formed, and our Brave Family came together around one shared purpose: making life a little brighter for children with complex medical conditions.

There was no shortage of fun along the way. The fan-favorite Golf Cannon once again stole the show, launching drives that left golfers laughing and wondering if they should retire their drivers altogether. Our Celebrity Putting Challenge kept everyone entertained, with WLWT News 5 Anchor Megan Mitchell taking home this year’s putting championship and, perhaps even more importantly, a full year of bragging rights.

One of the most meaningful moments on the course, however, had nothing to do with golf.

At our Brave Friends Challenge Hole, golfers guided a blindfolded partner using only encouragement, communication, and trust. Suddenly, the score didn’t matter nearly as much as helping someone else succeed. For just a few minutes, participants experienced a small glimpse of what it feels like to rely on another person, a powerful reminder that bravery is rarely a solo journey and that our greatest adventures are often shared with others.

Every sponsorship, every foursome, every volunteer, and every swing of the club helped make something much bigger possible. Because of this incredible community, Brave Like Me will continue delivering Brayden’s Books, creating unforgettable Brave Friends Adventures, and reuniting hospitalized children with the pets they love most through Brave Pets.

To everyone who golfed, volunteered, sponsored, donated, or cheered us on from the sidelines, thank you for making our second Brave Open one we’ll never forget.

Mark your calendars now for June 7, 2027, and join us for the 3rd Annual Brave Open. We can’t wait to see you back on the course for another unforgettable day of golf, friendship, and bravery.
